CIT students win the Pearson and (RED) Challenge!
26 Jun 12
2012 is the first year that Pearson UK and (RED) have teamed up to
run the “Pearson and (RED) Challenge” for marketing students across
the UK and Ireland. Groups of students from both countries competed
by creating a marketing plan and promotional video to
introduce a new partner brand to (RED) with a specific
product targeted to university students, that would raise
awareness and generate a sustainable flow of money to help
eliminate HIV/AIDS worldwide.
(RED), founded by U2 frontman and activist Bono and
Bobby Shriver, partners with iconic brands to produce
(PRODUCT)RED branded products. A portion of profits
from sales of those products is put to work to fight HIV/AIDS.
After a public vote on the videos through Facebook, (RED) picked the winning group, Falcon Consultancy,
with their product idea for (RED) Condoms. Huge congratulations to the winners from the Cork Institute
of Technology (CIT) School of Business: Claire O’Donovan, Marian Holland, Michelle Brennan, John
Sheehy, Alex Lopez, and their lecturer Dr. Angela Wright. Falcon Consultancy visited the Pearson office last
week to present to (RED), impressing them with their very clever concept, edgy video and well
constructed marketing plan; (RED) are currently considering the proposal.
“From the outset, the challenge and the cause sparked the imagination of our students. This competition has the
necessary ingredients to tap creativity, engage with the market, and apply business acumen within a dynamic global
marketing framework.”
- Dr Angela Wright, Lecturer & Research Supervisor, School of Business, CIT
