Edinburgh Business School MBA Graduates demonstrate the university's global influence and appeal
20 Jul 03

Students from all over the world attended the MBA Graduation Ceremony at Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh Business School (EBS) recently.

Independently ranked by the Financial Times as Europe’s largest MBA programme and the second largest internationally, EBS’s reputation as one of the world’s leading business schools was clearly evident both from the number of foreign graduates present and their range of professional occupations.

EBS currently has 10 376 registered on-campus and distance learning students from as far afield as New Zealand, the USA, Canada, Zambia, China, Bulgaria and South Africa.

Professor Keith Lumsden, Director of the Edinburgh Business School said that the diversity of nationalities present proved the international success of the programme and its relevance to global business needs. "The fact that a growing number of people all over the world choose EBS’s MBA is clear evidence that we are at the cutting edge of business education. Our commitment to applied learning means that students and the organisations in which they work derive immediate and tangible benefits from our programme," he said.

Edinburgh Business School is at the forefront of distance-learning methodology and has made significant strides in flexible on-line programme delivery and management. Professor Lumsden has been actively involved in the research and development of distance learning for nearly two decades and EBS has invested heavily in internet-based communications technology. "We see technology augmenting our current teaching methods, not replacing them," added Lumsden. "The internet for example must be used to enhance effective learning processes, add value to our programmes and enable students to maintain a competitive advantage in their business environments – no matter where they are in the world."

Addressing the graduates, Lumsden pointed out that they would be joining an elite group of over 6000 EBS MBA Alumni in over 160 countries around the world. "Edinburgh Business School has the unique privilege of facilitating a significant global network of successful business men and women across a wide range of social, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The value of this network cannot be underestimated in today’s global business community and EBS is extremely proud to have been part of the process which has brought you into that network," he said.
