Top children's authors write for new Streetwise
05 Jun 03

Building on the love of reading developed by Story Street, Longman Schools' fictional reading programme, Streetwise launches this Autumn for Years 5 and 6. Written by top children's authors including Jeremy Strong, Kaye Umansky, Jenny Alexander, Martin Waddell, Theresa Breslin, Jean Ure, Pratima Mitchell and Linda Newberry, Streetwise is a mix of gripping new novels and short stories.

Aimed at 9-11 year olds, Streetwise will keep children hooked on reading with short stories ideal for guided and independent reading. Differentiated access versions of short stories will motivate lower-achieving pupils and novels of increasing length will develop reading stamina.

Extensive teaching support ncludes a CD-Rom for each year and extensive notes for writing and differentiation. Each short story collection includes one classic story by authors such as Richmal Crompton, Dick King-Smith and Rudyard Kipling.

Year 5 pupils will devour Jean Ure's hilarious novel Prince Pantihose and a wickedly funny short story by Jeremy Strong as well as adventure stories by Pratima Mitchell and Jenny Alexander and Jeremy Strong's animal novel, A Monkey's Tale. Year 5 resources focus on Adventure, Humour and Animal themes.

Year 6 pupils will be enthralled by a supernatural novel by Linda Newbery, school stories by Kaye Umansky and Jeremy Strong as well as a historical novel by Linda Newbery. Year 6 resources focus on School, Supernatural and Historical themes.

Streetwise publishes in Autumn 2003.
